I even wear my suit on my commute, which is now only two miles. I have not shredded mine, I think , because I use a product called a "Power Strap" I bought it at first to ensure that the shiny side upper wouldn't get trashed by the clip and I'm also lazy and don't like to bring an extra pair in the bag to change into when I arrive. I'm cheap too and don't want to spend the money on a pair of shoes just sitting at work. THe stap keeps my feet on the pedals and also dosn't allow for much lateral movement. The rubber sole idea is also a good one as I have a couple pair of those too.
