Standardization has little to do with perfected design.
It's all about money. How companies can maximize profit and reduce their cost.
Those in a commanding position will attempt to keep it. And toss out new 'standards' to push the market in their direction.
I for one can't stand the multitude of rear drivetrain variations. The axle spacings, the cog counts continuously increasing, non-compatible cog spacing and splines, different shift gate lengths.
And why no friction option on MTB SIS? If something happens out on the trail, at least you have a fall back.
But then again, bike companies must make money off of us bike OCD fools.
