I actually have taken a XC bike off of a 5-6 foot drop to try to break it as an excuse to get a new one. Probably would have broken too, but I chickened out and jumped off the last second. Bike went flying and I ended up landing in a puddle of water with a big splash.
On another note. One of my old friends took my roommate's lower end aluminum Trek XC bike off the same drop and only broke the saddle, but I doubt it can take that repeatedly.
