This is a wussy thing. Pumping is a Fred thing, and Freds are more likely to have their own solutions to mechanical issues than others. Unless you patch, you're out a tube as well as CO2. If you prefer to patch and you're slogging home in a winter storm or you are in a particular hurry, I can see the argument to walk the last mile (but what kind of idiot would prefer to patch in such conditions)?
