Good point's, I really don't want to have very strict rules, just enough rules to keep the members in line, and keep the forums high quality.
I guess the two main rules for the forums, are 1) Respect other members, 2) Keep your posts clean. I think I'll write up what those rules mean, the basics of them at least, and include them in the welcome email that all members get when they register.
Joe Pozer, I have been looking at my logs quite a bit, For every 100 new visitors that come to the website, 8 become a registered member, Of the 1120 members that I currently have, 993 of them have less then 5 posts, and 457 of thoes have zero posts. For every one post on the forums, there is 20 more people who lurk / read that post. So basically, we have a ton of lurkers. This site does over 100,000 page views a month, with only 1200 posts a month, on avg, each thread is read 70 times.
BTW, this month, were looking to hit over 1700 new posts!
Im working on a script that will email all the users once a week with the latest 10 topics, last 10 polls, last 10 calendar events, forum stats, and user stats with log in info. What im trying to do, is get the registered members to come back to the forums every week, to see what's new, read the latest posts, and hopefully say hi, and post something here.
Also, with the co-branding, Im looking to co-brand with around 10 - 15 other cycling websites, so our traffic / members should go up about ten-fold, from 1,200 posts a month, to 12,000 posts a month, and from 1000 members to 10,000 members. Those who need help, will get help faster, and get more help then they currently can get. Sadly, the co-branding may not happen for another month or so, the development of the forum software is taking a lot longer then planed. Those numbers just above may be a bit optimistic, but my goal is to have 7,500 members by the end of the year, with over 75,000 posts.
