Resistance Units & Rollers

Hi All,

Finishing up last season I resolved that I needed to develop more strength when doing seated climbing.

I have aluminum rollers that I use as my winter training aid. I typically ride them for 30-60 minutes 3-5 days a week in the mornings in my converted garage. And while yes, I can shift into my 50-11t combo and do intervals I find that my cadence is still significantly higher than what I might encounter grinding up the local neighborhood climb. I don't think you can really pedal with a lot of stability much lower than 70rpms on rollers can you ?.....and I'm a guy who can ride rollers with no hands, take off a shirt, etc..

I don't want to purchase a separate stationary trainer so how much of a difference will adding a resistance unit to my rollers make ?...and are there any benefits or drawbacks to either a magnetic unit like this one:

Or a belt driven unit like this:

Thanks !
