I think it would be very difficult to start up as well. As you see here, there are still those that hammer BD and it's been around for a while. A new company doesn't stand a chance here. When someone asks about a frame or bike that isn't well known, one of the first responses are "you'd be better off with a (insert large manufacturer here) bike. It would take years to get the ball (bike?) rolling enough to really become profitable. But you'd really have to look at the financials and put together a business plan to figure it out.
I'm sure you're not the first to think about this and only a few have ventured into it.
