Two bigs had to keep the pace in compact cranksets as market's demands. I think it's very reasonable evolution, for the 42/53 w. 11/23 cogset is more for a pro's power output than an everyday man's. I use my beloved Santé crankset w. 50/38 Sakae no biopace chainplates (is it called so?) for no smaller is available for 130 bolt circle.

As far as I'm informed Shimano makes compact cranks only for their lower priced sets (I have a 36/46 RSX on my trekking) for higer demand sets they offer their brand new, 2004 DA-style, fat tube axle Ultegra in triple from this fall.

But Campagnolo carbon Chorus and Record cranksets with 110 mm bolt circle diameter are still on the market in Europe, US I don't know their website tells about it I guess.
