In terms of it breaking off I have the lanyard tied around my handlebars *just in case* the mount breaks. It's a semi heavy unit so I could see it breaking at some point - but then again most plastic will after time. You could just throw it in your bag though if you're just concerned with tracking (navigation wouldn't be as useful though). Yay for the better antenna
My 76 has gone flying across the road a couple of times, because I did not clip it in properly.

Now that my clip is broken I bungee it down so I doubt it will go anywhere no matter what.
