I just built a bike for climbing...48/34 x 11/25. the 48 lets me stay in by big ring most of the time on the flats, and the 34x25 is great on the steep stuff in the bay area. I really like the lower gearing and I'm putting a road bike with a 130 bcd cranks with 53/39 rings and 12x27 cogs...I would get a 29 but shimano does not make a cassette with a 29.
