The U.S. invaded in the fall of 1909 and stayed until 1933. As you might imagine, they changed the local situation significantly. Among other things they took over the administration of Nicaraguan customs.

John Hawkins left about 100 sailors in Veracruz in 1568, most of whom ended up before the inquisition at one point or another. If you're really interested, I can probably dig up a list of names.
