+1 on the bike stand. I have a Park PRS-15 Probably overkill, but I got a good deal on it at REI a couple of years ago.

+1 on the Zinn book. I also have The Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair from Park Tools. There's a lot of overlap in coverage (of course).

Also:

Light-weight gloves to keep your hands clean when working with the chain.

Citrus-based hand cleaner for those times you thought you didn't need the gloves.

Bandages, alcohol, H2O2, and Neosporin.

Degreasers and lubricants for moving parts, the subject of which could turn into its own religious war...
