The two bikes I ride the most each year get new bar tape over the winter. Why? Because it gives me a chance to inspect my handlebars a little more closely. I use a gel-cork wrap and one season is about how long it lasts before the gel flattens out and my hands start to hurt. Bar tape is fairly inexpensive, so I never feel bad about it.
