I had a bike with a sturmey drum brake, the Al bodied version.

It wasn't heavy at all. After about 2 year's use it would bind sometimes, locking on - the solution was to clean it. Other than that, it never needed servicing, very powerful, unaffected by weather. Great for people with weak hands.
