The answer I was thinking of was in show height vrs. barefoot. But the 2.5 inches you cite is just too much to account for by any reasonable idea and too little for the crude joke.

Oh wait I've come up with a variation. His adjustment factor for measuring some other body part is a fixed number of inches, not a percentage, so he just made a mistake and used that factor for height.
