Which hardtails are you comparing to which "softails" (BTW, there's a difference between a softtail and a full suspension bike, but I'm assuming that you are referring to FS bikes)?

Your broad generalization that hardtails are just as reliable as "softtails", especially when your abject lack of experience is considered, three weeks of shopping) is crazy.
