I've got my bar end shifters routed ergo style. Shifts perfectly fine. The only thing is that you may find the rear cable barely long enough in which case a slightly longer cable or a tandem cable may be required.
Even on a small 50cm frame, my RD inner wire came up about 4cm too short. Heading into the shop for a tandem cable in an hour or so.
