A regular hub will probably work just fine, but the spokes will be spaced out so they don't go perfectly straight to the rim, more like a V. With the 36 hole hub, you're using holes that are closer in relation to to each other so there's less of a V. Either one will work, but I was just pointing out that the 36h hub might even work out better.

The next issue is for you to determine the correct spoke length with the odd patterns.
