i just had a 28 mile night ride over the labor day weekend. it took around 3 hours. i used my mountain bike with my h.i.d. light which has a 4 hour burn time. i had to laugh, on a very dark street a motorist shouted to me: "does that thing have a low beam?" i guess it's a good thing--they can see me!
