Sure there are. I do have to say that I have not seen a single multi-speed hub in the entire country. If you can get past that point, there are a tremendous number of commuters, both good and bad (and the bad is very bad). There are a lot of single speeds and people tend to ride slower.
As far as the bike shop in Yreka, CA... no, no commuter bikes (but he will order just about anything). For that matter, I really do not recall seeing any in Ashland or Medford, OR (the nearest large town).
