I think I agree completely. I started with SPD on some cheap-ass Ascent pedals ... even raced them once! But then I splurged for Shimano's M959s for better bearing quality. Now I have 2 sets of the M959s, one on my mtb, and the other on my new road bike (I only have one pair of shoes).

BTW, SPD has been around for many years. So if you're worried about design upgrades that will make your old pedals obsolete, I don't think you'll have to worry about it too much. I think that's the main reason why I'm staying with SPD for pedals.

Didn't Speedplay change the Frog cleat design about a year or 2 ago?
