I've heard that there is a nice 4000ft climb in Santa Barbara with stunning views as a bonus. Could anyone provide a route link?

I might be staying in Santa Barbara as well (since I have waited too long to find a place and Solvang is a little crowded now). I am not familiar with the area and was checking out the map and was thinking of riding from SB to Solvang. It looks like SR 154 would get me there with some climbing .
I could sure use some "local" insight. What is the approx dist / climbing like from SB to Solvang using 154 along Cachuma. How's the road ? Is 101 better ?
