I bought an 84 Trek 760 for 270 bucks and had most of it overhauled with the price still being under 400 bucks. The frame is worth upgrading so I plan on modernizing it, though it's a great bike even with all the suntour superbe components on it.

Look for a vintage 80's road bike. You might find something at a garage sale and it would suit you just fine.
