Not to get into your business of raising your son, but I have to ask -- was he going at an unreasonably high speed (i.e., 90+ mph)? Or was he going with the flow of the traffic around him?
Particularly on congested freeways, it's much safer to travel at roughly the same speed as everyone else -- not faster, but not
slower, either. It's like a herd of cattle out there; run too slow and you just might get run over.
