Here is another one for you. I witnessed a 'dooring' last winter. It was a dark and stormy night. Official records were 53 mm (2") rain that day. It was 5:30 (about 30 minutes after sunset if there had been one). A black Toyota pulls up to the curb and the door opens........ When tending to the cyclist, he asks for me to get his heart rate monitor from his handlebars and check his rate. I do. His rate is 75 so I say to him do not worry, you are not in shock. His reply is that his heartbeat rate was 170 when he hit and that his 'stasis' is 42. The police report said visibility was 3 metres (10 feet).

His bike 'Was' a 27 speed trek with drop bars.

My thoughts are that there a a time and place for everything and that was not the time or the place.

But then what do I know. I am an old fart at 46 and still riding. He was an 18 year old uni student who apparantly has not been able to attend a class since.

Sorry. It shook me up.
