Those paths in Forest Park can be tricky - lots of breaks from frost heaves, camber changes, etc. I quit riding the paths and now stick to the roads. Much smoother, and easier to keep a good pace.
Glad you came away without significant injury!
I mainly ride the path to have some fun with cornering, etc. I try to use the roads to get in some distance. Maybe I will be doing a little more riding on the road in the future
