It may depend on how long before you ride outside again. During the off season I try to get out when conditions are tolerable/safe so moving the bike, stored in the garage, back and forth to the basement is a pain. Also the rear tire will wear flat quickly - I plan on getting a cheap wheel to use just with my trainer so I don't have to change tires out frequently to ride outside. Besides sweat/corrosion problem, you can put a lot of force on the bike sprinting and out of saddle. Ultimately, I don't know if this can hurt the bike frame. The stationary bike in this regard would probably be more stable. Some say the headset can get notched being in the same position. Obviously the stationary bike is more expensive assuming you are getting something like a spinning bike. I've been using some Spinerval DVDs so a trnr is great for matching what they're doing. I guess a cheap beater bike and a trnr will still be much cheaper than a stationary bike.
I have a 1upusa trnr, kind of expensive, but its as good as reviews in mtbr.com and roadbikereview.com have indicated.
