In my experience (I do all my wrenching), depending on your amount/type of riding, you may need to tighten the cables a smidgen shortly after first install. You'll know if this needs to be done. Shifting won't be as .. smooth, for example. After the first touch-up, you shouldn't have to touch it any more .. but they are held taut by screws, so it you ride over a lot of rough terrain, don't be shocked if you have to touch them more often (say twice a year or something like that).

Then every now and then, change the brake pads, make sure the calipers are centered, clean the drivetrain, lube the drivetrain. If you start hearing clicking from the headset area, it's either that the original install wasn't done all the way right or that crud got in there (happens with a lot of wet weather riding).

All else is common sense. There is no [real] recommended mileage tune-up.
