Talk about killer hills, I rode Greenbelt this weekend. The Hill of Life is more suitably termed the Hill of Death! After making it up the first 1/3, I struggled to walk the bike up the remaining 2/3. At the top, still catching my breath, a few hikers asked, "did you ride all the way up?" I replied, "10 years ago!" Geez, I am 30 now. When I was at UT I used to ride up that thing like no big deal. I swear it looks twice as long as it did before - I don't mean that figuratively, it literally LOOKS 2x longer. Not only is it steep, but it is so highly technical you have to find just the right line just to stay upright.
Oh, then I decided I'd take the "easy" way back by riding the roads. I followed the map to 360, which I naively assumed would take me right back. I nearly got hit by a speeding SUV while watching traffic from the other direction.
Where is the Greenbelt tour? I've never walked a hill, but I'd sure like to find one that would make me really, really wanna do it!! Where abouts in TX are you?
