For MOST fixed gear riders who cycle in soft soled sneakers:

Track pedals are bad because they have a high cleat ridge built to mesh with hard soled and cleated racing shoes.

BMX pedals and DH pedals are bad because they are overbuilt. They have needless weight, they have more overlap, they will pedal strike more.

MTB pedals and touring pedals are GOOD. They are designed for being used the way urban fixed gear cyclists use their pedals. They are lean yet supportive, they have lower cleat ridges, they have teeth that grip soft soles, the are reasonably light weight.

Nuff said.
