Until I can scrape up the cash for a roof rack I'll just put my bikes in my car. Seats fold down and at least 2 bikes fit. Haven't tried more, of course then you run out of seats... I just don't trust the yokel driving behind me talking on a cell phone. I've been rear-ended by another car before, nothing serious, but it would have destroyed a bike on a trunk rack. I'm sure the probability of this happening is close to nil, and insurance could maybe cover it(?) but just my two cents. I had a saris trunk rack and I never had any problems with it. Thule and Yakima are also both major names. It's kind of hard to screw up a hitch-rack. There's no contact points with the body so you can't mess up paint or dent anything.
