And you don't need a whole new crank most of the time, you can find 110BCD rings in most sizes. You could probably run your current crank with a 52/39 setup if you wanted to.
I currently have a 50/34 and am thinking of getting a 53/39. My only fear is that I may suffer with the 39 on climbs.
Bostic- Yes, I'd like to keep the 11-26 I have to go with a new 53/39. I don't know much about gearing so I don't know if this is possible. Sorry for being such a newbie about it.
Retro Grouch- I'm not disappointed in riding a century in my big ring. I loved it! I actually didn't realize it until the day after. It simply made me question the need for a compact setup.
