Look into printing - they are always looking for low paid monkeys. I'd recommend digital printing (I assume you are computer literate if you are a chemist) because people that can use computers are rare in that field...
Or...
You could become a self-employed chemist with a 'shop' in the basement... Depending on your skills, I might be interested in your wares...
One thing I've found in my many times unemployed is that you really can be overqualified for a job, and that will turn an employer off. They will think that you won't be there for very long. They want someone who isn't ever going to want more - if you have already had better jobs, then they wonder : "How long will this guy last? 3 months? 6 months?"
It's kind of a conundrum that comes from finally escaping the fast food world - you can't really get a job doing fast food again. They want people that don't look higher than fast food...
