When you hear guys stay they replace a chain at 1,000 miles or a cassette at 2,500 miles, dirt is why. A clean, well maintained drive train will last a very long time.
A good analogy is...brushing your teeth with dirt. They will fall out faster and if they are your baby teeth then you have a second chance.
