Bikes: Surly Cross-Check, 1983 Specialized Stumpjumper

I am going to be running these on my new ss/cx bike.

Not much into the racing, but keep thinking I should try it...

What levers would you guys recommend with something like these?
I can't decide between flat bar levers or road levers.

Oh yeah, to the OP, I will being running 42X18. Used to run 39x18 on my off road fixed Cross Check.
