Ok, finally have some time to elaborate on todays ride and pic's above.
Being able to finally use a route on the device is nice. A course can take time to create! I have found some bugs that I will discuss but I want to stress that all the issues I list below are software issues that Garmin will be able to fix in upcoming updates. We had many similar to these when the 305 first came out and they were all fixed over time.
For the ride I created a route in Mapsource using City Navigator North America v8 and copied the GPX file to to the SD card on the 705 using File Explorer.
When I started the route I noticed that it did not follow the route in the same as Mapsource did for the entire route. Many sections were smack on though.
When viewing the route on the map page (IMAGE_003 and IMAGE_008) there we some straight line paths shown that were not part of the route at all. The unit did not try and follow these paths, these appear to an issue when it draws the route on the map page only.
The turn by turn direction screen (IMAGE_004) displayed everything accurately except the total distance and the total time remaining at the bottom of the screen. These same fields did not work when on the top of the map page (IMAGE_008).
When I got to the end of the ride at the last waypoint the unit showed that I had 8,807 miles left to go(IMAGE_009). Wow, that would be a long ride!
The elevation scale on the elevation page did not scale to match the profile of the ride like the 305 does (IMAGE_010). However about 1/3 of the way through the ride it was scaling just fine (IMAGE_006).
If you have any question feel free to ask. Tomorrow I will create a course from this ride and then follow it. I will post my results tomorrow.
