It should work, but I'd use the Tange upper race in frame, as well as on the steerer. That keeps them matched. I actually have similar! I was given a Campag headset, no idea the model but it was aluminium, and it wouldn't fit on the available thread. I used the existing, unbranded, parts at the top, and the Campag lower races and bearings.
