I'd like to put in a vote for the Rivendell Reader. It's not really a commuting magazine, but it's more about utilitarian cycling and related topics... and if bike commuting isn't utilitarian, I don't know what is.
There are no ads except for Rivendell's, and the editing is much improved over earlier issues... altho you may still encounter the occasional misspelled word (not unlike these forums).
Biggest problem with the reader is it doesn't get published with any regularity anymore. They used to have 4 issues a year. Last year I think they had 2. But you can still buy past issues on CD pretty cheap.
