I've got almost 3000 miles with frogs on road bikes. They work great. As far as the profile, no, they aren't as low as the X series, but they are certainly no worse than the SPD and Look pedals that are used on roade bikes so that's a non-issue. Frogs are also lighter than most road bike pedals while being designed to be as durable as mountain pedals. While they don't "click" quite like SPDs, there is a definite feel of them snapping in to place.

I suppose you're not a "real" roadie if you use MTB pedals, but that kind of thing never bothered me.
