Bikes: Many

- Do you commute by bike, or do you plan to commute by bike this year?

I plan to start commuting this year when it warms up.

- How far is your commute?

About 8 miles each way.

- Do you commute every day? All year round?

No. If it is not enjoyable to ride, i won't. I am not a full fledged tree hugger, so that aspect doesn't drive me. I may get to the point where I will commute in the rain, but I am extremely unlikely to commute when the temp goes below 40 (overnight low).

- Is your commuting route pleasant? Dangerous? Dreary?

A little of each. No significant cycling presence, so drivers get irate quickly, and don't leave enough room. This underscored by the redneck quotient makes it relatively unpleasant other than on the couple of MUPs. (which I can use for part of the ride).

- What bike do you use? If you had to do it over again, would you choose the same bike?

I will use a Giant Sedona to start with, and move to a touring bike I am building up. I will see which one I prefer.

- What's the single best piece of advice you could give to new bike commuters?

Be flexible. For example:

Based on what I have read, ride your route when not under time constraints to learn the better routes.

I am considering starting out easily, and driving to a "Park and Ride" location and shortening my trip a bit until I lose some winter flab.
