I agree - it was a solution in search of a problem. The bike was built with Zap when I found it in the shop, and I was too cheap to pay extra to "downgrade" to Record, at the time. Eventually, as I said, I just got fed up with the problems.
But as far as making the other person's point - the maker of wired electronic shifting takes more of a "marketing" hit because the weight of the wiring has to be included in the component weight. If we're using the criterion you agreed to - that manufacturers don't have to account for cabling weight because the consumer has several choices - the maker of wired electronic shifting doesn't have that choice because the consumer has to use the included wiring, it being proprietary.
But anyway, we're arguing about nothing here, and I'm not coming to a forum to make enemies. So this will be my last post on this subject.
