My first crash? I really don't remember. I can tell you that it wasn't on a mountain bike, but probably a 20" Huffy. My first crash on an mtb was the first one I ever got, which was some cheap department store piece of crap about 18 years ago. I had never ridden a bike with front hand brakes, so I went down a steep embankment and immediately locked the front brakes. The next thing I know I'm being thrown to the ground and a 40 pound bike is hitting me in the back and head. They may have just been steel caliper brakes, but that was all it took.
