I don't think it's a straw man argument at all and suspect you may be making assumptions (maybe fair ones, but in this case inaccurate) about my gun control politics. But you know what - I think we may be taking this off-topic down a very well-worn path - so let's both pause. I apologize for my non-cycling specific post.

So to go back to the OP: if you are already a gun-owner, have you considered joining the NRA and seeing whether they have already researched/litigated this issue? I would assume (possibly wrongly) that this issue would also be of interested to motorcyclists.
