I also have a 50/36. My hardest gear is a 50/12. 99% of the time, it's enough for my fields. But it got to a point where I could just not spin any faster, and I wasn't going quite fast enough (37.2mph). I just wished I could've powered down the descent (nice wide turns, the fastest one banked) instead of spinning like mad, or trying to get really aero and coast, and not making enough of a gap before hitting the windy sections. The 36T little chainring was helpful at times, but a 53 (or even an 11 cog) might've been just a little bit nicer.
