you will want to change the chain to go 9 (this is to accomodate the narrow spacing on the cassette), but most chainrings will handle 8 or 9 speeds. You can measure the centerline spacing of the chainrings and compair 7 to 8 to 9. As long as the chain cannot drop into the gaps between the rings than you are ok.
