+1 - everyone is different and conditions maintenance, riding style...blah, blah, blah....

...but 3K on a 10spd chain is something that I would take in a heartbeat. Then again I don't normally ride the SL. I ride the KMC DX10 - currently sold at Performance under the Forte name for $19.99. So with your math (not Ravenmore's) I would be getting 6k on $40 of 10spd chain.
