All it is is just a safety system in case the binder bolt should break for some reason, the saddle will not separate from the post. Now, how often does that happen? It adds too much clunkiness to an otherwise nice looking post.
Once is too much...
I had a seat binder bolt break once during a cyclocross race. Scared the ***** out of me (damn near skewered it out of me, too!)
That was the main reason why I went with the Miche Supertype for my track bike.
