One way I've seen that I like is by a young woman who rides a 29er. She puts her front wheel over the top and back through one of the vertical spaces and then U-locks the front wheel to her down tube.
If the front wheel fits completely through the vertical space in the rack, all you've gotta do is undo the QR and the bike is yours to throw in your van and cut the lock off later at your leisure...
