Thanks for the advice, sounds like getting a grinder and stripping off the crap and then adding the arbor extension is the way to go. I'm going to hold out till may on buying a new one and see if I can pick one up at a yard sale. BTW, I don't plan on using the grinding wheels... I'd just strip all the guards and crap off and install buffing wheels. I already have some experience buffing and I bought the caswell kit for a hand drill. It sucks! A drill does not cut it at all when you really want to get into it. So I have tons of compound and some experience, now I just need the right tool.
