Lambert announces end of Topeak Partnership
Lévis, Québec; March 13, 2008.
Lambert today announced that it has reached a mutual agreement with Topeak to end its distribution partnership. For the upcoming season, Lambert retains exclusivity until September 1, 2008 and guarantees that inventory and shipments will be maintained until next fall to serve IBDs and respect partnership agreements nationwide.
While Lambert respects Topeak for its position in the marketplace, the decision was made as both organizations recognized they were at crossroads in terms of long-term product vision and market development strategies in channels parallel to IBDs.
Product Innovation
Lambert’s goal is to be the one-stop-shop for IBDs across Canada, selecting innovative products that take into account the needs and product recommendations of customers nationwide. With this philosophy in mind, Lambert has attracted many new brands, some of which Topeak took issue with. However, Lambert remains firm that a constant flow of innovation is key for IBDs—and for our industry—to thrive.
Grey Market
After consistent efforts from Lambert and Topeak, we were able to identify the grey-market sources which led to Topeak being sold at MEC; however, steps to actually stop this practice remain to be concretely taken by Topeak.
Lambert is pleased with the results it has provided Topeak—both with brand recognition and sales in Canada—and extends best wishes to Topeak in its future endeavours.
